AMBER ALERT HOAX

Not all Amber Alerts forwarded by text and email are real, very few are a hoax.
Amber Alerts will have some basic information like.  Area affected by the alert. Age of persons missing. Brief description of clothing or vehicle involved.
EX: 2yr old girl abducted from your hometown NJ last seen wearing brown pants and pink flower print shirt with a tall heavy set male light complexion in blue van.

How can I find out if an e-mail I received about a missing child is legitimate?

You should contact local law enforcement agencies in the area where a child is missing from or search the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) web site. NCMEC serves as the clearinghouse of information about missing and exploited children, and offers a searchable database of missing children. In addition, the Association for Missing and Exploited Children's Organizations is an organization of member agencies in the United States and Canada who provide services to families with missing and exploited children. E-mail notification is not included as a specification of the AMBER Alert plan.

This hoax originated in February, 2009 and is now apparently back in circulation. We have seen numerous news items and we have received many email inquires in the past 24 hours. Please do not forward the Amber Alert text message. The Amber Alert for a 7 year old girl abducted by someone in a silver truck is a hoax being spread by text message to cell phones. The hoax apparently originated in Utah on February 7th. Please do not forward this message and inform whomever sent it to you that is not a real Amber Alert.

The Amber Alert for two young girls in a brown Jeep Liberty with Kansas license tags is a hoax being spread by text message to cell phones. The hoax apparently oringinated in Odessa Texas on April 14th. Please do not forward this message and inform whomever sent it to you that it is not a real Amber Alert.

Now Approved to give NJ EMT CEUs.
